Mark Brunswick is president of MB Associates, Inc., a consulting practice focused on community, private sector, and government relations. MB Associates' project portfolio includes work in leadership training and development, justice system reform, health care and minority business development. As Director of Education for the Delaware A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI), Mark coordinates a program which has been recognized for its capacity building and leadership development. Mark is also a member of the Delaware chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) where he advises on strategy and program development.
Rich Cowan has a degree in computer science from M.I.T and ten years of experience working in political campaigns or social change organizations. He has worked as academic computer support specialist, a database consultant, an adjunct faculty member, a newspaper editor, and as a nonprofit founder. Prior to founding Organizers' Collaborative, Rich started the Center for Campus Organizing from 1991-7, making extensive use of the Internet to network progressive students and faculty. Rich has written articles for Responsive Philanthropy, Techsoup.org, and is the initiator of the Organizers' Database software project.
Dennis Fischman
is the Director of Planning for the Community Action Agency of Somerville. From
1998 to 2003, he was a development consultant working primarily with community-based
organizations serving low-income and immigrant populations in Somerville and Cambridge.
He serves as chair of the Somerville Grantwriters and Fundraisers Group. Dennis has
been active in peace and justice movements for over 25 years. He is a former member
of the National Steering Committee of New Jewish Agenda and a past president
of Temple B'nai Brith in Somerville.
Marissa King is a graduate student in Sociology at Columbia University in New York City. She was an intern at Organizers' Collaborative in 2002 and 2003. While at Organizers' Collaborative, Marissa has primarily worked on content development for the democracygroups.org web site. In the past, she has done work related to inequality and education for groups such as United South End Settlements, Prison Education, and the Mission Hill After School Program.
Philip Myrick is a long-term community activist based in Roxbury and Mattapan. He has been the paid coordinator/organizer for Egleston Square Neighborhood Association from for the past four years. He has worked as a real estate manager and appraiser and has signficant financial management experience. He is a former public school teacher and he previously worked as a volunteer with an anti-gang youth organization in Boston. He is also a Vietnam Veteran and member of Veterans for Peace.
Sara Peach is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sara
interned at Organizers' Collaborative in 2003 and was one of the organizers of the
4th annual "Grassroots Use of Technology" conference. At UNC she is co-chair
of the Student Environmental Action Coalition and has been a leader in
campaigns to make her campus more environmentally friendly. While studying in Australia
during her junior year, she did research on the way that the media portray
anti-logging campaigns. Sara plans to attend graduate school to further study the way
in which the newsmedia shape public perceptions of social issues.
The board approved a bylaws change in March 2004 that will eventually expand our board up to 9 to 10 members. Elections will be held at the next OC conference (tentatively scheduled for March 2005) for two at-large seats. The board will select two additional members from our core constituency (users of software and training services), and we will be filling any vacancies that arise.
